All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Alonzo Trent Palmer Jr. - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal December 23, 1998 Funeral services for Mr. Alonzo Trent Palmer Jr., age 76, of Alexandria, La., were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18. at the First United Methodist Church in Alexandria with Dr. Henry Blount officiating. Burial followed in Pineville, La. Mr. Palmer died Tuesday, Dec. 15. 1998. at his home in Alexandria. He was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Vicksburg, Miss., and was reared in Tallulah, La., where he graduated from Tallulah High in 1939. Mr. Palmer attended Louisiana State University, where he joined the Kappa Alpha Order and participated in the ROTC program. He was a decorated veteran of World War I1, serving in the U.S. Army as a platoon leader first lieutenant through five European Campaigns and awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Mr. Palmer was a Chartered Life underwriter serving as President of the CLU Association and retired in 1977 as an Agency Manager with the Equitable Life Assurance Society. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Alexandria, The Sons of the American Revolution; The Purple Heart Association; The American Legion, and the Equitable Southern Retirees' Association. Mr. Palmer was a Honorary Alumnus of Tulane University and a member of the Louisiana State University World War II Memorial Committee. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Alonzo Trent Palmer and his mother. Mattie Cummings Palmer. Survivors include his wife of 50 years. Janie Richardson Palmer of Alexandria: one son, the Rev. A. Trent Palmer III of Little Rock, Ark.; and two sisters. Martha P. Mitchell of Shreveport and Ann P. Willett of Tallulah; and two grandchildren.
