Devone Payne - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, March 21, 1958 Coach Payne Dies Thursday In Monroe Coach H. Devone Payne, Head Football Coach at Northeast State College Monroe, and former Head Coach at Tallulah High School, who underwent a serious operation Saturday, March 15 at a Monroe hospital, died Thursday morning at 9:30. Coach Payne was head coach at Tallulah High School for a number of years and had several championship teams. After leaving Tallulah High, Coach Payne went to his Alma Mater, Louisiana College and coached one year before going to Northeast State in Monroe. During his college days at Louisiana College at Pineville, Coach Payne was a great athlete and during his football days he made the Little All-American team. Coach Payne has a number of friends in Tallulah and Madison Parish who will regret to learn of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Delores Beck Payne; four children, Devone, Jr., Robert Charles, Joe Beck, and Andrew. Funeral arrangement are incomplete.
