All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Katherine Payne - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, September 15, 1967 Mrs. Katherine Edgerton Payne Dies In Madison Parish Hospital News of the death of Mrs. Katherine Payne Sunday saddened many friends here who will remember her for her sunny disposition, and interest in people. She was taken quite ill and taken to the Madison Parish Hospital Saturday, after suffering a recurrence of a bronchial condition. Her only child, Mr. John William Payne, arrived from his home in Dallas, Texas before her death. Mrs. Payne, the former Katherine Edgerton, moved to Tallulah from Coushatta, La. before 1920 with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. E. O. Edgerton, and made her home here until her marriage to Col. John Payne, U. S. Air Force, in 1927. Col. Payne died several years ago while on duty in the Pentagon, Washington, D. C. In 1950 Mrs. Payne and her son, Bill, moved to Tallulah and made their home with her parents. She was a member of the Methodist Church, and funeral services were held there Monday, September 11, 1967 at 2:00 P. M. with the Rev. Clark Bell officiating. Interment followed in Silver Cross Cemetery, in the family lot. She is survived by her son, John William Payne of Dallas, Texas, and three grandchildren, John Fitzpatrick, Gregory Norman and 1 Lacey Beaumier, all of Dallas, Texas. Two brothers survive Mrs. Payne, Edwin Otis Edgerton and Fred Edgerton of Alexandria, La. Pallbearers were: Glenn Whetstone, Henry Sevier, Jr., Edgar Lancaster, Jr., Elmer Neill, Robert Holstead, J. C. Sherwin, Maxwell Yerger.
