All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Sarah Scurria Phillips - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal December 5, 1990 Services for Mrs. Sarah Scurria Phillips, 82, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 3, 1990 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, with Father Louis Voorhies and Father Silven Watterkotte officiating. Burial was in Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Phillips died Saturday, December 1 at the Delta Haven Nursing Home after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie in 1976, an infant son in 1931 and an infant daughter; Sarah Charlene in 1947. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Scurria who settled in Tallulah after the turn of the century. She was educated in Vicksburg, Miss. at St. Frances School for girls. In 1930 she was married to her beloved Charlie, in an impressive wedding that is still remembered in this area. Mrs. Phillips was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church and Ladies Altar Society and the Madison Parish Garden Club. She will be remembered with great affection and respect by a large extended family and numerous friends, as a lovely and gracious lady. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted daughters, Josephine and Marie and their husbands, Billy and Johnny; 9 grandchildren, Charles Finlayson, Sara Finlayson and Billye Jo Finlayson and Billy Ray Hodge of Tallulah, Jerry Ann Harmon of Fairfield, Texas, Charles Michele, Mamie Gatlin, Sarah Hamilton and John Michele, all of Irving, Texas; 7 great-grandchildren, Charlene, Robert, Matthew, Michael, Sean and Amanda of Irving, Texas and Stacy of Tallulah; 3 sisters, Jennie Scurria and Annie Lombardo of Tallulah and Angelina Ilardo of Shreveport; brothers, Joseph Scurria and Sam Scurria of Tallulah; sisters-in-law, Mary Blanchard of Houston, Texas, Lena Scurria, Florence Phillips, Helen Phillips of Starkville, Miss., Rosa Phillips of Aberdeen, Miss. and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Dr. Andrew Lombardo, Charles E. Phillips, Sam T. Phillips, Vincent Phillips, Norvell Phillips and Larry Scurria. Honorary pallbearers were Ollie Cantrell, Leroy Smith, Bucky Weaver, Louis Tonore, Dr. L.P. Neumann and Lloyd Shelton. A rosary and wake service was held Sunday evening. Any planned memorials may be made to St. Edwards Catholic Church.
