Popwell Madison Parish, LA From The Monroe News-Star (LA), Monday, October 30, 1967 TALLULAH (Special) - Funeral services for John W. Popwell, 67, who died Saturday at Veterans Hospital in Jackson, Miss. after a short illness, were at 2 p.m. today. Services were held in Mission Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bobby Brown and Jimmy Shepherd officiating. Burial was in Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Popwell was a native of ___, Ala. and a member of the Baptist Church. He had resided in Madison Parish for the past 27 years and was a retired lumberman. He was a member of the American Legion and Veteran of World War I. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Hettie Popwell, Tallulah; one brother, Fletcher Popwell, Waverly; and one sister, Mrs. Mertie K___, New Orleans; [two?] nieces and one nephew.
