Purdy - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, April 27, 1956 Rites Held For Mrs. W. C. Purdy In Utica, Miss. The community was shocked last Wednesday, April 18 to learn of the death of Mrs. W. C. Purdy in a Vicksburg hospital, where she had been taken several days previous. Her death occurred at 5:30 in the morning. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev. lrvin Cheney officiated, assisted by Rev. Arthur Strickland of the Presbyterian Church. Interment was in a Utica, Miss., cemetery in the family plot. Mrs. Purdy was a native of Utica, and lived there until her marriage to Mr. Purdy in 1925. She had many warm friends here, where she made her home the past 25 years. She was 68 years old. Mrs. Purdy was well loved by many for her quiet personal kindnesses, especially where it was most needed. Pallbearers were M. B. Christian, Don Belott, Don Sevier, George Jordan, W. W. Ziegler and Salo Abrahm. Crothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Purdy is survived by her husband, Mr. W. C. Purdy; a son William O. Purdy, Jr.; and Mrs. Marvin Whitfield, all of Tallulah; one grandson and several aunts and cousins in Jackson, Miss., Crystal Springs, Miss., and California. Mrs. Richard Miller of Talco, Texas, and Mrs. Carl Nadler of Donaldsonville, La., came for the funeral.
