Earl Wiggins officiating. Burial followed in the Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah. Mrs. Ratcliff died Friday, April 25, 1997, in the Summit Hospital in West Monroe, La. after a lengthy illness. She was a life-long resident of Madison Parish, a member and past president of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of Tallulah Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Louisiana Press Association. She was a former owner and society editor of the "Madison Journal" newspaper in Tallulah for 15 years. "She was my business partner when we first bought the Journal (in 1968) and she served as society editor" former co-owner Carroll Regan said. "Everybody knew Callie and she made the women's news really well-read," Regan said. "While she was here, she pretty well stayed on top of the entire social scene in Tallulah," he said. "I don't think she ever really intended for it to be as full-time job as it became but it became a labor of love because it gave her a high profile position in the community, which she really loved." Regan said her women's news won some awards and she started a cooking column with people submitting recipes every week that was turned into the Brushy Bayou Recipes cookbook. "We sold a good many cook-books," he added. She sold her interest in the paper to Regan after she remarried and moved to Tensas Parish, he said. She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Rufus T. Yerger, Sr., and Russell Y. Ratcliff, Sr. Survivors include one son, Rufus T. Yerger, Jr., of Baton Rouge, La.; two daughters, Carolyn Yerger Bishop and Flora Yerger Tucker, both of Tallulah. Also, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Henry C. Sevier, Jr. of Tallulah; one sister, Roberta "Beta" Sevier Gandy of Tallulah; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Dr. Joseph W. Yerger, William Yerger, Jr., Edward M. Yerger, Jr., Robert A. "Racer" Holstead, John S. Yerger, James L. Tucker, III, and Taft Y. Tucker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tallulah Presbyterian Church.
