All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************** Melton Ray - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal December 4, 1931 MELTON RAY, 18, IS SHOT FRIDAY NEAR TALLULAH Gun Said to Have Been Accidently Discharged by Orville McCready Melton Ray, 18-year old son of a tenant farmer who resides near Tallulah was fatally wounded Friday afternoon while hunting with a party of men near Alligator Bayou about eight miles south of Tallulah. Three shot from a shotgun are said to have struck him in. the abdomen while two more struck him in the legs. He was taken, after first aid treatment by Dr. G. W. Gaines, to a Vicksburg hospital where death occurred a few hours later. It was reported that the shotgun was accidentally fired by Orville McCready when Ray was shot. McCready lives on a plantation near Alligator bayou.
