Scurria - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Monroe News-Star September 3, 2009 Tallulah, LA Marrietta J. Scurria, age 88, died at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Monroe, LA. Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Visitation with Rosary will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 3, 2009 in the chapel of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah. Services will be held Friday, September 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Tallulah with Father Ferre D'Cruz officiating. Internment will be at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home. Marrietta was born in Newellton, LA on June 19, 1921 and graduated from Newellton High School in 1938 as Valedictorian. She married Sam J. Scurria in 1947 and lived the rest of her life in Tallulah. She was a loving wife and devoted mother to her eight children. She was known for her winning smile and warm personality that endeared her to many in Newellton and Tallulah. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church where she was a member of the Alter Society and had served as past President of the Madison Parish Garden Club. She will be sadly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam J. Scurria, Sr. of 53 and a half years; two sons Joseph Michael and Sam Joseph, Jr.; her parents S. Andrew Lombardo and Angelina Lombardo of Newellton, LA; two sisters Josephine C. Lombardo and Annette Lombardo and one brother Dr. S. J. Lombardo of Tallulah, LA. Survivors include two daughters Nancy C. Scurria of Monroe, LA and Angela Workman and husband Keith of Van Buren, AR; 4 sons Andrew T. Scurria of Monroe, LA, Edward A. Scurria of Tallulah, Gerald F. Scurria and wife Susan of Springfield, MO, and John T. Scurria and wife Krista of Prairieville, LA; 2 grandchildren Joshua Quincey and Anna Rose Scurria also of Prairieville, LA. We her children would like to thank her doctors and nurses and all her special friends in Tallulah, Newellton and Monroe who loved her so deeply. As Mom said so often, "May the Grace of God Bless You and Reward You Always." Pallbearers will be Charles Michael Finlayson, Paul Meeks, Gene Cox, Larry Boles, Jim Sevier and Lester Shivers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. L. P. Neumann, Dr. Andrew Lombardo, Dr. John Zeilger, Dr. Patrick Gary Jones, Dr. Robert Raulerson, Gary Arneson, Mike Rome and Jerry Strong.
