All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Sara A "Ammons" Shelby - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, October 14, 1987 Funeral services for Mrs. Sara A "Ammons" Shelby, 70, of Shrewsbury, Mass. were at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury with Rev. David K Johnston and Rev. Dr. Paul R. Adkins officiating. Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery under direction of Howard C. Allen Funeral Home. Mrs. Shelby died Thursday at the Masonic Nursing Home following a short illness. She was a former soloist in several Worcester churches, was born in Greenville, Ms., and was the great-great-great granddaughter of John Sevier, the first governor of Tennessee. Mrs. Shelby and her husband celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last July 4. Survivors include her husband, Dr. I. Gerald Shelby: three sons, Gerald S. Shelby of Shrewsbury, John F. Shelby of Boylston. Mass. and Robert A. Shelby of Shrewsbury: a brother, Robert Lee Ammons Jr. of Shreveport; three sisters, Ophelia A. Thompson of Tallulah, Alberta A. Berry of Waterproof and Belly A. Brown of Jackson, Ms and 7 grandchildren.
