All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ Edward Archie Smith - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal, December 28, 1962 Automobile Injuries Fatal to Edward Smith; Services Held Saturday at Baptist Church Funeral services for Edward Archie Smith were held at 2 p m. last Saturday at the Tallulah First Baptist Church with the Rev Oster R. Daniels, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Cupit-Young Funeral Home. Edward, a 21-year-old man, was involved in an automobile accident, Sunday, December 16 at Norco, near New Orleans, off the Air-Line Highway. He died last Friday in Oschner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. He and two other Tallulah men were injured when Smith's car swerved from the highway and struck a road sign, according to state police reports. The report said it appeared Smith fell asleep at the wheel. A passenger, Charles Grace, suffered a spine fracture and was removed to the same hospital. And, according to young Grace's father, Mr. L. S. Grace, he will not be paralyzed as thought at first. The Jefferson Parish coroner's office said Smith's death resulted from head injuries. The third person, David Creed, suffered minor injuries in the accident. Edward was a graduate of Tallulah High School and a student at Northeast Louisiana State College in Monroe. He was a member of the Tallulah First Baptist Church. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. (Teba) Smith; two sisters, Mrs, Ira Hugh Irvin and Mrs. Bob Laird, all of Tallulah; Maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Barfield of West Monroe, and a number of aunts and uncles and other relatives. Active pallbearers were David Creed, Johnny Goss, Bruce Raley, C.L. Keene, Edward Eiland, Ralph Allen, Billy Querry and Leonard Wall.
