C. Smith rites held Sampson Cargile "Tige" Smith, 73, Thursday in a Vicksburg hospital after a brief illness. A native of Bernice, La., Mr. Smith lived in Tallulah for the past 30 years. Prior to his retirement he was district officer for the Department of Public Works. He was a member of the American Society of Engineers, a member of the Louisiana Society of Civil Engineers and a member of the Society of Military Engineers. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Smith; two daughters, Mrs. Johnny xxx of Ferriday, La. and Mrs. xxx McAnelly of Dallas, Tex.; two brothers, C. E. Smith of Baton Rouge and xxx Smith of Shreveport; five sisters, Mrs. M. K McKinney, Mrs. Shexxx xxx, Mrs. Alpha Sallier, Mrs. Brooks, all of Dubach, La. and xxx Brooks of Houston, Tex. Funeral services were held Saturday n. at the First Baptist Church Rev. Crawford Williams officiated. Interment followed in Providence Memorial Cemetery under direction of Crothers Funeral Home. Nephews of Mr. Smith served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were employees of the Department of Public Works.
