Thigpen - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal December 4, 1964 Services Held Wednesday For P. B. Thigpen P. B. Thigpen, Madison Parish Farmer and member of the Madison Parish Police Jury, apparently drowned after a car in which he was a passenger ran into a creek near Holly Ridge about 11 p. m. Sunday night. Thigpen, 54, was traveling to Monroe with his wife at the time of the accident. According to reports Mrs. Thigpen was rescued by a man, Luther Lofton of Delhi, assisted her in swimming out of the creek. She managed to get a car window open and escape the vehicle after it was in the water, according to reports. According to reports Mrs. Thigpen was driving the vehicle and ran off Highway 80 to avoid crashing with a car approaching in her lane of traffic. She was taken to the Delhi Clinic for observation. Rescue workers located the car with Thigpen's body some one-fourth mile downstream around 4 a.m. Monday from where the car went into the creek according to reports. Mr. Thigpen was a lifelong resident of Madison Parish. He was elected last year to the Police Jury, beginning his term in May. Funeral services were at Crothers Funeral Chapel at 2 p. m. Wednesday with the Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial followed at the cemetery in Hazlehurst, Miss. Masonic rites will be given at grave side. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Edith Thigpen, Tallulah; son, Arthur Thigpen, Tallulah; a brother, Joe Thigpen; and a half brother, Sammy Britt, both of Monroe; a sister, Mrs Annette Zagone of Monroe and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were Phil Grimes, Harry Barrett, Archie Fairbanks, Charles Arneson, George Watts, Maxwell Yerger, Jim McDaniel, and George Townsend. Members of the Madison Parish Police Jury were honorary pallbearers.
