All rights reserved. ************************************************************************************************ From Tallulah Madison Journal December 29, 1950 Herman Thornton, Sr. Funeral Held Here Sunday Afternoon Mr. Herman Thornton, Sr., resident of the Lake One community died Friday afternoon, following a heart attack. He had not been ill previous to the attack. He was 59 years of age. Mr. Thornton operated a grocery store in the Lake One community, and drove a Madison Parish school bus until the time of his death. He was a member of the Tallulah Chapter of the Masonic Lodge, No. 308, and was a member of the Carson Springs Baptist Church, Sandy Hook, Miss. A native of Lee County, Miss., he had been a resident of Madison Parish the past twenty years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Tallulah Baptist Church at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. Joe Hamilton officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home, in the Silver Cross Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Charles Arneson, Ira Everhart, Bill Bradley, J. T. Roy, J. M. Brown, Percy Hammon. Honorary pallbearers were J. E. Furr, Clyde Clark, Arlie Cox, Clarence Parker, George Eggles-ton, R. E. Brown, J. R. Linton. Besides his wife, Mrs. Letha Thornton, he is survived by three, sons, Ezra, Joe, and Herman, Jr., all of Tallulah; one daughter, Miss Wilma Thornton, Tallulah; 4 grandchildren; two brothers, Emmett Thornton, Compton, Calif.; Jim Thornton, Kosciusko, Miss. ; sisters, Mrs. Alma Salter, Purvis, Miss.; Mrs. Myrtis Deaton, Buford, Ga.; one half sister, Mrs. Vernice Hendrick, St. Paul, Minn.
