Wells Sr. - Madison Parish, Louisiana From Tallulah Madison Journal July 29, 1992 Funeral services for Mr. George A. Wells Sr., 96, longtime mayor of Delta, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Patten officiating. Burial was in Green Acres Memorial Park. Mr. Wells died Monday at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was a native of Monroe and had lived in Delta for the past 26 years, where he served four consecutive terms as mayor. He was employed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers for 16 years and the Warren County Board of Supervisors for several years. He was an assistant captain of the steamer Sprague for several years. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Vicksburg. Survivors include his wife, Sallie L. Wells of Delta; two sons, George Wells Jr. of Delta and Fred Wells of Vicksburg; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons, Henry Wells, David Wells, Robert Wells, Curtis Brewer; Robert Ott and Bryan Wells. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Paul Pierce, Glen Watkins, David Gremsby, Bobby Johnson, A. L. Harvey, Wayne Pierce, Michael Pierce, R. R. Mitchell, Exo Griffith, Dr. Herman Kellum and J. E. Blackburn Sr.
