Winters - Madison Parish, Louisiana 7/17/1873 to 1/17/1952 From Madison Journal, Tallulah, LA January 25, 1952. The funeral of Rev L. H. Winters, who died in a Monroe hospital, was largely attended Wednesday at the New Light Baptist Church. Rev. Winters was one of the parish's oldest preachers and he held the respect of many white and colored friends, having served as a minister and pastor for 57 years. Rev. James Whitney officiated. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery with the Harris Funeral Home in charge. He is survived by his wife Jessie Winters; two sons, L. H. Winters, Jr., of Detroit, Mich.; Dave Winters of Las Vegas, Nev.; four daughters, Ella Glasper and Frances Winters, Las Vegas, Nev. Mary Lucas of California; Lydia Danson of Richmond, Calif, three stepsons, George Reed, Jackson Berry and Alfred Reed: eleven grand children and two great grand children. The family wishes to extend their thanks to their many friend,: for the kindness shown them during his illness and death.
