Carolyn Eugenia Wroten - Madison Parish, Louisiana

From Shreveport Times May 16, 2014

Carolyn Eugenia Wroten, 72, of Shreveport, LA passed away on May 15, 2014 in her home. She was born on June 8, 1941 in Tallulah, LA, to Roy and Lela Wroten. She attended Tallulah High School and graduated in 1959. She went on to earn a degree in education from Northeast Louisiana State College in 1965. After college, she moved to the Metairie-Kenner area where she taught for 27 years; 26 of those years at Airline Park Elementary School. She was awarded Teacher of the Year for Airline Park Elementary in 1987. She touched the lives of many 4th grade students during her years as an educator.

After retiring, she moved to Shreveport, LA. The visitation is from 1:00-2:00 pm on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at The First Baptist Church of Tallulah. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. The burial will be held at The Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Northwest Louisiana.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lela Wroten. She is survived by her 2 sisters, Emily Ruth Ervin and Lee Ann Arbuckle of Tallulah, LA; 2 brothers, Butch Wroten (Janet) of Somerville, TN and Ronnie Wroten of Vicksburg, MS; 4 nephews, Bill Arbuckle, Jr., Justin Arbuckle (Jamie), Doug Wroten and Chuck Ervin (Kelly); 3 nieces, Tiffany Ervin Steers (Albia), Kathryn Arbuckle Thomas (Paul), Kim Corley (Bruce); and many cousins, great nephews and nieces.

Carolyn was loved by many. Her vivacious, positive personality, and love for life were contagious to everyone she encountered. She loved the LSU tigers, and was a founding member of the Shreveport Bengal Belles. She wore the collegiate purple and gold colors proudly, and her throaty chant "GEAUX TIGERS" will ring on in our memories forever. She was a fan of Mardi Gras, where she was a member of the Krewe de Les Femmes Mystique, serving as Captain for 3 years.

Carolyn also enjoyed the outdoors, where travel, golf, fishing, and gardening were just a few of her favorite pastimes. She was an active advocate for the American Cancer Society in the Shreveport-Bossier area, and helped inaugurate the Annual ACS Baron's Ball. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2009, she continued to support and volunteer for ACS, and she was Honorary Chairwoman and Speaker for the 2012 Baron's Ball.

Carolyn's faith and conviction to our Lord and Savior were a witness to many. May her legendary memory live on in the hearts of all that knew and loved her.
