Flowers Called by Death Monday Morning Sub-Headline: Beloved Citizen Answers Last Call After Brief Illness Robert W. Flowers, 82 years old, one of the best-loved citizens that ever resided in Jena, died at his home here at 5;30 o'clock Monday morning, following an illness of 2 days during which time he suffered a stroke of paralysis. The cloud of genuine sorrow that swept the community as the news of Mr. Flowers' death spread was a far more eloquent tribute to the life he has lived than can be penned. People in every walk of life that had known, "Granddaddy" Flowers, as he was affectionately known to all, paused at the word of his passing to voice their sorrow and to say a word about the excellent traits of the man whom all loved and admired. The funeral services were held from the Jena Baptist Church at 109 o'clock Tuesday morning, April 7, Rev. John Henry Smith, of Franklington, former pastor of the church here, presiding. The crowd that filled the church and the profusion of beautiful floral offerings that were sent to the home and to the church again exemplified the esteem in which Mr. Flowers was held. In the funeral rites, Rev. Smith paid a glowing tribute to Mr. Flowers life as a Christian man, who had been a devout church member and active in civic affairs. The deceased was born in Mississippi and before moving to Jena had lived in Rosefield. Fifty-two years ago he was married to Mrs. Queen V. Tidwell, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, A. D. and C. W. Flowers, of Jena, and Mrs. A. C. Albritton, stepdaughter, also of Jena; Mrs. Annie Poole, sister, of Kelly; two grandchildren, Miss Eloyse Flowers and C. W. Flowers, Jr. Interment was in Nolly Memorial Cemetery. All business houses in Jena were closed during the funeral hour.
