War of 1812

Start Date: June 18, 1812, when the United States declared war on Great Britain.

Peace Treaty Signed: December 24, 1814, when the Treaty of Ghent was signed by American and British negotiators.

End Date: February 17, 1815, when the ratified peace treaty was officially exchanged and proclaimed, ending the war.(Note: Because communication was slow, the famous Battle of New Orleans took place on January 8, 1815, weeks after the peace treaty was signed, but before news of it reached the United States).
