Jeremiah Strickland was born in Johnston Co., NC
abt.1760. He was the son of Samuel and Mary Strickland. In 17783 he
married Elizabeth Gurley. Bond for the marriage was made in Johnston Co.,
NC on April 1, 1783. Bondsmen: Jeremiah Strickland, Benjamin Strickland
(brother) and H. Lightfoot. Later that year, Jeremiah purchased 200 acres
from his father Samuel Strickland with brothers Benjamin and Davis
witnessing on 4 Nov. 1783. He was given money in the will of his father
but it did not help much because he was declared to be insolvent for 1787
as of 29 Aug1787. His insolvency was not a permanent thing, because he
was able to purchase 200 acres on the county line at Great Meadows on 8
Oct 1795. Jeremiah is found in the 1790 Census Federal in Johnston
Country but not the 1800 Census (Source: Descendants of Matthew
Strickland 1648-1696) Through Four Generations, by Forrest King, CG.
Land records indicate that Jeremiah Strickland was in the West
Florida Parishes of LA by 1800.

Johnson Co., NC, daughter of Robert Gurley and widow of a Jeremiah
