Margie Roop Pearce
Margie is a retired gymnastics club owner with 5 grandchildren whose father was from IN and whose mother was an Ory from St. John Parish. She has been doing genealogy for over 20 years. She compiled & edited The Ory Story, Alsace-Lorraine to America published in 2003. She and Jim have been working together on USGenWeb projects over six years. Margie lives in Gonzales, LA.
In June 1996 a group of genealogists organized the Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in the country where collected databases would be stored. The databases were indexed and cross-linked so that even if an individual were found in more than one county they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. The goal of the USGenWeb Project and each states' GenWeb Project is to provide FREE genealogy information to family researchers. Each county in every state has a volunteer coordinator who is responsible organizing, maintaining and improving the information on his/her county's website.
