Robert Womack and Wrizopa "Rispey" Southern

Submitted by Martha Stevenson Owen

Robert and Rispey were married in Copiah County, Ms  on the 11th of November, 1830  Robert was born ca  1803 and Rispey was born ca 1813, both in Mississippi.  This picture was taken ca  1860, so Robert is around 52 years old, and Rispey is around 47 years old

Robert and Rispey owned 80 acres near his mother in Copiah, Co  when they first married

According to the census records and the births of their children, they moved to Louisiana between 1840 and 1842  In 1856 they sold land in Bienville Pa., La  to William M  Walker  18 Aug  1856.

Rispey is said to be of Choctaw and Cherokee heritage  I have been trying to prove this for many, many, years  I feel that most, or maybe all of the records on her family were in Simpson County, Ms., "and" the Court house burned the last time (I think) in 1872.

They are then found in the 1860 census of Winn Parish  Rispey is found in the 1870 census of Winn Parish living in the home of her son Wiley Womack.

I have been searching for Rispey's parents and siblings for over 20 years  A long, long time  A possible sister for Rispey is Diadamy Southern  Diadamy married Samuel McLeland the 17th of January, 1822 in Lawrence Co  Samuel was also the bondsmand on Robert and Rispey's marriage license  After the death of Diadamy, Samuel married Robert's sister, Mildred "Milley" Womack Foster  After the death of her husband, James Foster who was one half Choctaw  Samuel and Milley moved to Louisiana with Robert and Rispey, before moving on to Oklahoma.

Any help with finding out about WRIZOPA "RISPEY" SOUTHERN will be very much appreciated!!!
