JEAN (CHARLES) NAQUIN - land on both sides of Bayou Darbonne, 484 sup. acres. Claimant petitioned Baron de Carondelet for this land in 1795, the Baron directed the Surveyor General to inform himself relative to the land being vacant, etc., and the Surveyor General reported favorably to the claimant. Claimant never received any other title from the Spanish Govt. but he actually settled the land prior to 2nd Oct. 1800. Confirmed. (Wife was Marie Madeleine LeBoeuf of SJB Parish)
WIDOW JEAN PIERRE DUGAS (REYNALDA NAQUIN)(In 1810 they lived at this site; no claim found)
** Claim 338 of JEAN BAPTISTE VARDIN, for himself and brothers, for a tract of land on both sides of Bayou Darbonne, containing 626.36 sup. acres (total of acreage in Sec. 2, 3, 4 and 5 = 626.16). They claim they settled on this land about 1792-1793 and they show sufficient proof, but it also appears satisfactorily to the Board, that they left the land and settled elsewhere, previous to 1 Oct. 1800 and never resumed possession of it since. Claim rejected. (This **land was in conflict on the state land plat - Jean Baptiste, Alexandre & Pierre Verdun)
(JEAN) CHARLES NAQUIN - land on both sides of Bayou Lafourche (sic: Darbonne), 145.30 sup. acres, adjoining on one side by PIERRE DUGAS. Claimant did settle this land with permission of proper Spanish officer prior to 20 Dec. 1803. (wife was Marie Madeleine LeBoeuf from St. John Parish. Jean Charles Naquin died Nov. 1820. (2) MARIANNE, sister of LOUIS le sauvage abandoned to ROSALIE COURTEAU wife of JACQUES BILLOT land bordering on the upper side of PIERRE BOURG and on the lower side by land proveeding from JEAN BILLOT, now occupied by VIDOCHE BELLANGER for and in consideration of the expenses necessary to put the said land in order, well understood that I abandon it to her at her risks and perils for the expenses that the said land shall revert to her and I MARIANNE do acknowledge my daughter ROSALIE from this very day and forever as owner of the said land. (4) ALEXANDRE VERDUN purchased from TOUP-LA-BAYE dit COURTEAU, Indian of the Beloxy nation, land on the lower part of Bayou Terrebonne, 5 arpents front on each side by such depth as certificate of confirmation calls for, bounded above and below by land of the said VERDUN, for the sum of $350 whereof $100 have been paid in cash, $100 payable one year from today, and $50 in the course of the two aforesaid years as fast as Courteau shall have need therefor. Courteau is owner of the aforesaid land by virtue of the acquisition from JEAN BILLIOT dated 29 Aug. 1822, which BILLIOT had had by concession thereof. (Terre. (2-A) Probate of JEAN BILLIOT: CHARLES BILLIOT paid $253 for land containing 20 arpents front on each side of Bayou Darbonne with depth of 40 arpents with about 12 arpents cleared (Act 108, 29 Sept. 1809, p. 100 OA Lafourche Int. Par. 1808-1812; also TLL 11-3-10).
(3-A) ALEXANDRE VERDUN, by purchase from CHARLES BILLIOT (to repay debt he owed his mother MARIANNE ERIS), 20 arpents front on Bayou Terrebonne by ordinary depth, bounded above by COURTEAU, an Indian, and below by purchaser.
